"nothing can be more important than this sentence"

„From Text to Machine” draws together works based on text, language and the word. The textual body of the project leaks from itself, yet seals simultaneously above itself. It locks up into the reality, the language, the colloquialism, the text and the letters of itself as a garden of converging roads. It leaks and inflicts transborder dataflows, deviation, shifting, evasion from the categorical system of the language.
„From Text to Machine” is a book expanded into space, a disrupted and manifold text, a dystopian structure. In the dichotomy of flow and enclosure the reader will navigate towards a new object, the mechanical self.
“From Text to Machine” consists of the works of twenty authors. “The difference is as follows: the work is concrete, occupying a portion of book-space (in a library, for example); the Text, on the other hand, is a methodological field.” (R. Barthes “From Work to Text”)
The works – which are actually also machines – and which use the text as their methodological field, have (while dispersed/extended into space) crossed the border of what is spoken and written in a “ordinary language”, which, even though speculating about the possibilities, does not cross it itself. (Ideas, such as Burroughs’ “the language is a virus from outer space”, the schizophrenia of the language of psychoanalysts, modern literature that has completely adopted the arbitrary approach.)
The text becomes into a machine there, where it starts leaking over the margin of the book, where the echo of speech is a meaning and where the complex relations between Lalangue and the Other become apparent. “The end of the anchor chain is the beginning of the singing.” (Ilmar Laaban)
An in-depth examination of topics such as intertextual translations, metaverbality, the material deterritorialization of text, the synchronization of codes, the metamorphosis of the author in the anagram-machine, a machine-hybrid with a typewriter-head and the body of macho in a text-labyrinth, and broken-word will be provided.

Lekkimise-sulgumise dihhotoomias hakkab inimlugeja liikuma uue objekti, iseenda masinlikkuseni.
„Tekstist Masinani” koosneb kahekümne ühe autori teostest. „Erinevus on järgmine: teos on aineline fragment, ta võtab enda alla mingi osa raamatute ruumist (näiteks raamatukogus). Tekst aga on metodoloogiline väli.” (R. Barthes „Teosest tekstini”)
„Ankruketi lõpp on laulu algus.” (Ilmar Laaban)
Lähema vaatluse alla tulevad teemad nagu: intertekstuaalsed tõlked, metaverbaalsus, teksti materiaalne deterritorialiseerimine, koodide sünkroniseerimine, autori muundumine anagrammimasinas, kirjutusmasina pea ja arnold schwarzeneggeri kehaga masin-hübriid tekstilabürindis, broken-word etc

Dictionary of Imaginary Places/ Kujuteldavate kohtade sõnaraamat/

stereo sound, projection/ stereoheli, projektsioon/ 2001/ courtesy: Association DUM/ Galerija Gregor Podnar, Ljubljana/

.Fishkin’s works are machines that work in a poetic manner on the contradictoriness of their own fundamental premises. They produce the metaphysical that fuses from scientific positivism. In this work Fishkin translates the existing literary matter (the homonymous literary work Dictionary of Imaginary Places of Alberto Manguel and Gianni Guadalupi) into the matter of visual and audible language.

.Fishkini tööd on masinad, mis töötavad “poeetilisel” moel omaenda eeldustest tekkivate vastuoludega ning toodavad “metafüüsilist”, mis sulab välja teaduse positivistlikust maailmapildist. Antud töös tõlgib Fishkin olemasoleva kirjandusliku materjali (Alberto Mangueli ja Gianni Guadalupi homonüümse teose Kujuteldavate kohtade sõnaraamat) heli- ja visuaalsesse keelde.

.One quickly realizes that the actors are talking about odd things that do not fit within the context of these films (Terminator, Baywatch). All of the spoken texts in the films are from the Martin Heidegger’s 1969 essay Die Kunst und der Raum (Art and Space). The content of the text deals with the linguistic origins of words pertaining to space and location. The film images function as a backdrop for the philosophical text on aesthetics.

.Pole keeruline aru saada, et näitlejad filmis räägivad ebatavalist juttu, millel pole midagi filmi kontekstiga pistmist. Tekstid on Martin Heideggeri 1969 a ilmunud esseest Die Kunst und der Raum (Kunst ja ruum). Tekst on dubleeritud ja sünkroniseeritud peategelaste huulte liikumisega. Heideggeri teksti sisuks on sõnade lingvistilistesed alged seoses ruumide ja kohtadega. Filmikujud on sellele filosoofilisele tekstile esteetikast vaid taustaks.

.The text in the books has been taken from the works of Tammsaare – „ Truth and Justice”, being the backbone of Estonian literature – and modified by an anagramconverter.
Understanding the text is an organic process, kept apart from the norms of literary language. The moral is a ripened norm of living, impossible to be rooted through punishment.

.Teksti mõistmine on orgaaniline protsess, mis seisab lahus kirjakeele normidest.

text projection/ tekstiprojektsioon/ 2007/

.... is a projection of inner thoughts into a space and onto the body of the person passing through that space. one can`t read the text on his own body, just stranger or friend. the very personal, emotional feelings such as struggle, worries and random personal thoughts are being captured and made visible through automatic writing_a writing technic to get in contact with your very inner thoughts. thoughts we all have, but which get more and more abandoned by society. think it out loud_ is an interplay between public matters and personal ones.

Metsaraamatukogu/ Forest Library/
installation/ installatsioon/ 2007/

.The Forest Library, founded by the Moscow Club of Literary Performance is located 40 km from Moscow, in the woods near the railway station Zaveti Iljicha. The books are not only kept in the forest and transformed by metamorphoses, but they are in book-change process and join the collections of book-art. The action Forest Book (the project handles/is engaged with) has to do with metatextual work, intending to give the Book another life out of its conventional meaning, out of its usual relations. May be, that the nature while decomposing the matter of signals, mysteriously adopts informational codes of the human culture.

.Moskva kirjanduslike performanceite klubi loodud Lesnaja Biblioteka (Metsaraamatukogu) asub Moskva lähistel raudteepeatuse Zaveti Iljicha ligidal.

Silma kabinet/ The Cabinet of the Eye
installation/ installatsioon/ 2007

.14NÜ is a legendary litearature group whose practice is usually something between attack and research –both physical and psychical- revolving around the meaning of author, the book as an object and the ontology of text. In this work they use the medical attribute – a cabinet of the eye, where the table for the eyesight control is displaced with their own text.

Antud töös kasutavad nad meditsiinilist atribuuti, silmakabinetti, kus silmanägemise kontrollimise tabel on asendatud nende enda tekstiga.

.Tri_VocalMess

sound-installation/ heliinstallatsioon/ 2006/

.Tri_VocalMess (short for Triple vocal message) is one of few Barthol Lo Mejor's esoteric sound art projects, using cut up sound text for composition. Based on the rhythm of words, which replaces the instruments and at the same time explores the trinity of stereo sound. Inspired by a chapter written by Castaneda where two brujos split up their apprentice by simultaneously whispering different stories into his ears. The stories progress into a medley growing in tension until the listener is split.

.Tri_VocalMess (Kolmikvokaalsõnum) on üks vähestest Barthol Lo Mejor'i esoteerilistest sound-arti projektidest.

.It's year 1918: A new country has appeared on the map of Europe: Estonian Republic. Next to soldiers, schoolboys enter the fight for their country and their views. However, freedom has a high price. Will they get love or their fatherland in return, or will they just be remembered by their names on the marble plaque? In reality this kind of marble plaque doesn’t exist. "Names on the Marble Plaque" is only a bestseller by Albert Kivikas, also a hyper-patriotic movie made in the 90s.

.documentation in audio/ audiodokumentatsioon/ 2007/

.The glossolaly is an inarticulate prayer, a neurological phenomenon, bound to active junctions of the lingvistic life in the subconsciousness of the brain, which is used in religious rituals, when rational thinking is suppressed. Glossolaly as speech holding magical power takes effect outside the metaverse, the fabricated structure consisting of code, as magic is possible only there. Originally, the christians used idioglossia, but the main branch( majority of the christian church/christians prohibited it. It was taken into use again in 1900s by the Pentecostians, who had turned into an increasingly popular sect thanks to the contribution of the media, spreading like a virus. The ‚gate towards God’ that they proclaimed is a gate in the human brain, speech.

.Glossolaalia on pudikeelne palve, neuroloogiline fenomen, seotud lingvistilise elu aktiivsete sõlmpunktidega aju süvastruktuurides, mida kasutatakse religioossetes rituaalides, surudes tahtlikult alla ratsionaalset mõtlemist. Glossolaalia kui maagilise jõuga kõne töötab väljaspool metaversumit, koodist koosnevat väljamõeldud struktuuri, sest seal on maagia võimalik. Algkristlased kasutasid pudikeelt, kuid kristliku kiriku peajoon suhtus sellesse tõrjuvalt ja keelas ära. Uuesti võeti kasutusele 1900 nelipühilaste poolt, kellest sajandi lõpuks oli viirusena levides ja massimeedia kaasabil saanud ülipopulaarne ususekt. Nende kuulutatav ”värav jumala juurde” (Paabel) on värav inimese ajus, „keeltes rääkimine”.

The literary grouping has released approximately ten publications since 1993, playing with the book design and the ontology of text - their main format is the so-called stripbook, which has sparked from the idea of binding the cut-off edges of books and printing their own text on them.

.14NÜ liikmed on Mait Laas, Paavo Matsin, Maarja Vaino, müstilis-fiktsionaalne Marianne Ravi ja postuumselt 1920ndate marginaalne kirjamees Johannes Üksi, mõnikord lisandub ka Tripp Jarvis. Alates aastast 1993 on grupeering avaldanud umbkaudu kümmekond trükist, mängides raamatu disaini ja teksti ontoloogiaga - nende peamine formaat on nn ribaraamat, trükipoognate äärtest lõigatud ribadele trükitud tekstid.
